Higher Education Academy Recognition
Individual recognition
The Higher Education Academy has developed a professional recognition scheme, which has been designed to support the implementation of the sector-owned UK Professional Standards Framework.
The Academy confers Associate Fellow (AFHEA), Fellow (FHEA), Senior Fellow (SFHEA) and Principal Fellow (PFHEA) status on individuals in recognition of their commitment to enhancing the student learning experience.
Accredited Courses
Fellow (FHEA) and Associate Fellow (AFHEA) status can be achieved through organised courses accredited by the Academy. Currently Loughborough offers two accredited courses. These are:
- the New Lecturers' Course and (previously) the New Lecturers' Route, for new full-time members of academic staff in their probationary period, which confer eligibility for the status of Fellow (FHEA);
- the Associate Teaching Course, for other members of staff who carry out substantial teaching duties as part of their role within the University, which confers eligibility for the status of Associate Fellow (AFHEA);
Carol Newbold manages activities in this area, supported by the Teaching Centre team and University Assessors.

Recognition Scheme
Individuals may apply for Associate Fellow (AFHEA), Fellow (FHEA), Senior Fellow (SFHEA) and Principal Fellow (PFHEA) status through the Academy's Recognition Scheme for experienced staff. For more information, please contact Jan Tennant.
