Triple Boot Labs - Macintosh OS X and Linux Basics

The "triple boot" labs in Haslegrave offer you the choice of Windows, Macintosh OS X, and Linux.

How do I switch it on?

The power button is on the back of the computer in the lower left hand corner. Plese do not power off when finished.

How do I save my work so that it is available when I return?

Linux desktop.

Save it on your Individual Network Filestore which is mapped as a drive.

Linux and Macintosh OS X will display the drive, titled with your username, on the desktop.

A window pops up on logon to ask for your university password. If this is entered correctly the mapped drive will show on the desktop. If the pop up was accidentally cancelled, log out and back in to restore the drive mapping.

How do I use a USB drive?

Use the USB slots on the side of the keyboard; there is one on each side.

How do I log off?

Macintosh OS X

OS X shutdown. Click on the Apple icon in the top left of the screen and choose Log Out username.

Linux

Click on the icon in the top right of the screen. Linux shutdown icon.
