MSc, Diploma or Certificate Postgraduate Programmes
All of our engineering departments offer exceptional facilities for postgraduate study. These established programmes are taught by leading UK academics and industrial practitioners.
Programmes are available as certificate (60 credits), diploma (120 credits) or master of science (180 credits). Transfer between these three types of programme is possible.
The MSc programmes include supervised project work that can be done as a company project in the workplace.

Course structure and assessment
All the MSc courses we offer consist of taught modules. Most modules have either a 10 or 15 credit weighting, where 10 credits equates roughly to a total of 100 hours of study. Generally speaking, modules include lectures, tutorials, private study and practical work. Some modules may be studied completely through distance learning. Most modules are taught within one week at times specified by a timetable for the academic year. Assessment is usually through a combination of coursework and written examination.
If you have been awarded credits at postgraduate level by another institution of higher education, Loughborough University will consider offering exemption from part of a programme. If you choose to leave Loughborough before you qualify for a postgraduate award, you will be given a transcript detailing the credits you have accumulated.
Full-time and Part-time Options
Full-time programmes are studied over a period of 12 months, starting in October of each year.
Part-time students may join during the academic year. The maximum time for studying a part-time MSc programme is eight years, but part-time students generally complete within three to five years and study modules as and when they choose, according to the academic timetable.
Individual modules
All of the Engineering Faculty's modules can be studied as individual modules and used towards other relevant postgraduate programmes at Loughborough or other universities.
While the majority of modules are taught completely at the University, some modules are available as a distance-learning/on-line option with tutorial support, or a mixture of conventional lectures and distance learning.

Short courses
The UK’s professional engineering institutions expect professional engineers and technicians regularly to update their skills through continuing professional development (CPD) activities such as attending the latest short courses.
All of the Engineering Faculty’s modules can be studied as standard short courses, without assessment, to enable engineers in industry to maintain up-to-date CPD portfolios. Additionally, we can provide customised in-house short courses specifically for your company's needs.
