Research School of Systems Engineering

The Research School of Systems Engineering forms the heart of systems research across Loughborough University. Loughborough University has a long established international reputation in systems engineering spanning more than two decades. Our research has high impact and has built on firm foundations involving partnerships within a wide range of domains including: aerospace, automotive, communications, construction, defence, energy, healthcare, manufacturing, organisational transformation, pharmaceutical and transport. The important characteristic of these domains is that they increasingly rely on complex systems to deliver the functionality demanded today.
The Research School of Systems Engineering spans the three Faculties and the Systems Engineering Innovation Centre (SEIC) to:
- Provide a leading world class environment in order to encourage and foster interdisciplinary research in the systems engineering domain
- Promote and enable the growth of interdisciplinary working in systems engineering across the boundaries between single disciplines, departments, and faculties
- Enable integrated strategy development for interdisciplinary working in systems engineering and coordinate the execution of the strategy
- Provide a supportive environment for researchers across the University and partner organisations who specialise in systems engineering
- Manage the research pipeline particularly to encourage and deliver significant research initiatives where the opportunity requires alliances either across Departments within the University or with key external collaborators
- Create and encourage a community within the University
- Establish and grow a new capability in the systems engineering area
